School Board Appreciation Month

January 13, 2021

Croswell-Lexington Community Schools is joining 544 local and 57 intermediate school districts across the State of Michigan to celebrate January as School Board Appreciation Month.

In a year full of challenges for public education not seen in recent history, our school board members persevered through the adversity of 2020 and committed countless hours of unpaid time working tirelessly to provide the best possible education for our students. Here in the Cros-Lex community, they also serve as the corporate board of directors of one of our community’s largest employers. Acknowledging our dedicated School Board Members for their commitment to our students and staff is one way to say, “thank you” for all they do.

School Board Members represent their fellow citizens’ views and priorities in the complex enterprise of maintaining and running our communities in public schools. School Board Members also reinforce the principle of local control over public education, which is an important, highly valued aspect of education in Michigan.

Through the last eleven months of the Coronavirus pandemic, our School Board Members continued their unwavering commitment to the health and safety of our staff and students and remained supportive to providing educational options to our families, including making every effort possible to keep our schools open.  In addition to the highest priority of providing a safe and healthy learning environment, the Cros-Lex School Board maintains a strong commitment to support student growth and achievement.  To achieve that goal, the board focuses on the following priorities:

  • Building on the District Vision Statement to provide a “World Class Education with a Rural Advantage” and the Mission of “Inspiring Excellence: Every Student, Every Adult, Every Day.”

  • Creating a safe and orderly climate where students can learn and teachers can teach.

  • Setting standards for what students must learn and be able to do.

  • Assessing whether schools achieve their goals.

  • Accounting for the outcomes of decisions and by tracking progress and reporting results.

  • Aligning the use of the district's human and financial resources.

  • Collaborating to solve common challenges and to support common successes.

  • Focusing on continuous improvement by questioning, examining, revising, and revisiting issues related to student achievement.

Even though we are making a special effort during January to show appreciation for our School Board Members, we recognize their contributions reflect a year-round effort on their part. In addition to the Cros-Lex Board Members’ commitment to keeping our students and staff healthy and safe, these dedicated Board Members are always striving to do what is best for all of our students.

The women and men who are “blazing a trail to excellence” and serving Croswell-Lexington Community Schools are:

Mrs. Katie Gordon, Mr. Dennis Gardner, Mr. Joe Vitale, Mr. Mike Noll, Mrs. Amie Stillson, Mr. Russ Nowiski, and Mr. Nathan Butler.
